The technological world has made the internet an innovative way for individuals to connect with people all across the globe. Social media sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and YouTube have grown tremendously in acceptance among adolescents. The author brought to light that adolescents are in an age group where physical and emotional changes take place.
The work recommends Cognitive, Rational Emotive Behaviour, Supportive, and Family Therapies to help adolescents who are addicted to social media sites. It will help them to realise the disadvantages of excessive use of social media. Besides counselling, parental affirmation and availability, family interaction and communication, social gathering and innovative programmes in the church relevant to the needs of the adolescents can reduce the stress factor and loneliness. This will help them to come out of impulsivity, leading to physical, mental, emotional/psychological, and social well-being.
Dr. Clara Mathew Shiju hails from Kannur district in Kerala. She did Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology (Counselling), and Doctor of Ministry under the Senate of Serampore College (University). She also did Master of Divinity from Gospel of Asia. She served as lecturer in Bible College of Ministries, Visakhapatnam; Doon Bible College, Dehradun; Union Biblical Seminary, Pune (External Studies); Agape Bible Institute, Mumbai; and New Theological College, Dehradun. She is a family and youth counsellor and was the resource person in Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission, Pune, Chandigarh Youth Conference, Mohali, and was a speaker in different parts of India and in the US (Dallas and Houston). She wrote a entitled Indian Christian Women Pioneers and Leaders Revealed: An Exploration of Overlooked Women's Voices in Socio-Cultural and Religious Framework (New Delhi: CWI, 2017). She has also contributed many articles in various literary works.
